Kinser, Joseph Greenberry
In trying to place Joseph Greenberry Kinser, I find the following Col. Fain as the only Fain officer and Joseph listed in the Infantry Battalion of Smith's Legion according to Henderson's Rosters, but neither is listed in the archives roster of Smith's Legion.
Kinser, Joseph---- private in Inf. Battn., Smith's Legion, Ga. Vols., February 12, 1863 . Transferred to Co. B, 65th Regiment Ga. Inf., March 1863 . In Blackie Hospital, Madison, Ga., March 1864 .
This information is abstracted from sheets sent from the Ga. Dept. archives. They are hard to read because of they have faded due to the old process from copies made in 1960s. The top of the first one reads:
K 65 Ga.
Pvt, Co B, Fain's Reg't, Georgia Inf.
Company Muster Roll
of the organization named above,
for Dec. 31, 1862 to April 30, 1863.
Enlisted Feby 12, 1863
Where: Morganton, Ga.
By whom: Capt Morris
Period 3 yrs or war
Present or absent Present
Bounty and pay due from elistment
Signature at bottom looks like F. A. Boyd
The next one has same upper and it was for May and June 1863 and states he was paid by Capt. Goodman
Then the top changes to K 65 Ga.
Pvt. Co. B, 65 Reg't Ga. Infantry.
Another shows him sick in the hospital Jany and Feb and I can't tell if it is 1962 or 1864. And Nov. and Dec. 1863 a Capt. Prichet or Richer signed the pay card.
In March and April 1864 Capt Anderson signed his card as present.
Then I get a different look.
