The Tennessee Infantry also recruited in Jackson County according to Jackson County resident, Ralph Freeman. Concerning the origin of Reynolds Company: Reynolds was the Master of Ralph's Masonic lodge back in 1861 or 62 and the whole lodge joined the army one night and rode off to war. Reynolds became Captain and his LT was Henry Hosch, a 50 year old farmer (Ralph's grandfather). He was killed in battle. Ralph couldn't understand why a 50 year old man would join up unless it was to live a fantasy and get away from the responsibilities of the farm and a large family.
Reynolds was killed too and Captain Venable became Company Commander. My great great uncle, Dock Singleton Kerbow died at Gettysburg in service with Company B. Two other Kerbow ancestors served and returned with Company D. All from Hoschton, Jackson Co, GA. F. M. Kerbow from Jackson County) served in the 38th TN Infantry.
