GEORGIA 1ST INFANTRY REGIMENT
(MERCER-OLMSTEAD'S)

HISTORICAL NOTES:

This regiment was organized May 31, 1861. A total of 1700 men were enrolled. It spent most of the war in the Charleston area. It was called out in the winter of 1865 in advance of Sherman's Carolina campaign and surrendered at Goldsboro, NC.
