The Best of Creole 2006
Creative Writing Contest

Creole Creative Writing Contest
Deadline: July 31, 2006
First Prize: $100.00 U.S.

We are happy to announce our SECOND Creole Creative Writing Contest. We are sponsoring this contest to engender new and emerging Haitian authors and to encourage reading and writing in Creole. We expect to accept 12 - 15 stories for publication and the BEST story will receive US $100.00.

The Louverture Project (

has added a $75.00 U.S. prize for the best history-related submission to the Creole Creative Writing Contest. In addition, they will post the author's story both at their weblog and permanently at their wiki, and and will sponsor an English translation of the work as well, if one isn't already available.

From Stuart Maxwell, Managing Editor:

"The Louverture Project is an online history site, gathering, analyzing, and promoting knowledge of the Haitian Revolution. The main part of the project is a wiki, or collaborative website, wherein we have started to collect and organize a range of information that we hope will help make Haiti's story known to a wider audience. I invite you to visit our site and check out what we're doing. I firmly believe that, with further development, The Louverture Project can be an invaluable aid to understanding Haiti, its history, and its people."

We don't care how long or short. We don't care if it has been published before or not. (Has everyone in the world read it already? Not likely. Give them another chance.) We DO care about promoting excellent writers and their best work. We are open to reading any form or genre of writing provided the writing is of excellent quality, original, and makes us wonder. "Adult" material will not be considered for publication. Our target audience is for young adults and school children who make up the majority of Creole readers.

Eastern Digital Resources reserves the right to edit all contributed materials for brevity and clarity.
