Our Objective
This project is organized to translate and publish the book, "Where There is no Dentist" in Haitian Creole. The resulting book will be published and distributed at the cost of production.
Our objective is to distribute this book as widely as possible with the translation work being done by volunteers and the publication and distribution being subsidized by mission groups and individuals so that the people throughout Haiti can have access to this work.
The English version of Where There Is No Dentist has approximately 55,000 words. While the industry rate for foreign language translation is 75 cents per word, we believe that we can accomplish this translation for an overall cost of 20 cents per word. The entire translation process will thus cost approximatly $10000 or $50 per page.
The cost of publishing 1000 copies of the book will be approximately $5 each and we will be able to make the book available at approximately $15 - $20 per copy. This price compares very favorably with comparable texts and the sale of the books will then be self-sustaining with the funds going into further printing and distribution.
