The Civil War in Mississippi |
This regiment was also known as the Georgia and Mississippi Regiment of Infantry. It was formed in November of 1861 from men of the 1st Georgia Infantry Battalion. In January of 1862, this regiment became the 1st Confederate Infantry Regiment.
Research has not shown how many of the men were from Mississippi, but I believe that companies H, I, & K were Mississippi troops and may have also come from the Alabama 1st Cavalry Regiment.
Villepigue, Col. John B.
Smith, Lt. Col. George A.
Lovell, Maj. William S.
