68th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry |
68th Infantry Regiment was organized near Jackson, North Carolina, during the early spring of 1864. Its companies were raised in Camden, Pasquotank, Hertford, Bertie, Chowan, and Gates counties. It served in North Carolina and East Tennessee. Later it gu
arded prisoners at Salisbury and confronted the Federals in the Kinston area. In April, 1865, the men were ordered to return home and acquire mounts so that the unit could be converted to cavalry. But while these orders were being carried out, the war end
