M'r John McCammon died in Col'a So. Ca. May 4th 1876, very suddenly. The writer has known the deceased for many years. He was a good husband, kind and indulgent father; warm friend... Attached is a notice of the decease, from the Columbia Register. [clipping] "... Mr. John McCammon, an old resident of Columbia, died very suddenly yesterday afternoon, about 5 o'clock. He had been engaged for some time as an assistant in the investigation of the city books and accounts... Mr. McCammon was in the 58th year of his age. He leaves a wife, son and two daughters. He lost two sons in Confederate service - one at the battle of Gettysburg and the other by disease contracted by the exposures of the service. Mr. McCammon was in business with Mr. W. S. Wood, in this city, for a number of years ...."
McMahan, James S. - volunteered at Columbia, July 29, 1861; joined for duty at Richmond, Va., August 9, 1862; promoted to Captain, November 5, 1862. Promoted from 1st Lieutenant, November 5, 1862; on muster roll of October 31, 1864.
Captain J. S. McMahon, died in Col'a S. C. Dec'r 26, 1870. He was a most estimable and valued citizen. An obituary notice of the Columbia Phoneix is hereto appended. [clipping] " Death of Captain J. S. McMahon... he was the courteous and efficient City Clerk. Latterly he had been engaged at the South Carolina Railroad Depot here...."
