HISTORICAL NOTES:
-
This regiment was organized at Anderson in March of 1861. It fought first ar First Manassas under N. G. Evans where it had 11 killed, 79 wounded, and 6 missing. In April of 1862, the regiment had 450 men. If was consolidated into five companies and redesignated as the SC 4th Infantry Battalion. Company B became company D of the Palmetto Sharpshooters.
One flag survives in private hands and fragments from a second silk flag are in the SC Relic Room. Dedmondt also describes a third known flag.
