ORGANIZATION:
The 40th Infantry Regiment was organized at Memphis, Tennessee, in October, 1861, with one Florida, one Kentucky, four Alabama, and four Arkansas companies. During February, 1862, it became the 5th (Walker's) Confederate Infantry Regiment.
