The Civil War in Texas

1st Regiment, Texas Cavalry

     

  • HISTORICAL NOTES:

      1st (Buchel's) Cavalry Regiment was organized at Carreicetas Lake on the Rio Grande River during the early spring of 1862. It was formed by consolidating Yager's 3rd and Taylor's 8th Texas Cavalry Battalions. The men were from San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Marshall, and Belton, and Jackson and DeWitt counties. The unit was attached to H.Bee's and Bagby's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, fought at Mansfield and Pleasant Hill , then skirmished in Louisiana. It was included in the surrender on June 2, 1865.
