The Civil War in Texas

3rd Regiment, Texas Infantry

  • HISTORICAL NOTES:

The Texas 3rd Infantry Regiment completed its organization during the fall of 1861. Some of its members were recruited at Austin and San Antonio. It served along the Texas coast at various points and in October, 1862, totalled 648 effectives. Because the regiment never saw any action, during the latter part of the war morale deteriorated. It disbanded before the Trans-Mississippi Department surrendered in June, 1865.
