HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 6th Battalion, District of Columbia Infantry (3 months, 1861) was organized in Washington, D.C., in April 1861 during the initial, short-term call-to-arms at the outbreak of the Civil War. The battalion served a brief, intensive period guarding the capital region. The unit's term of service ended on July 19, 1861, just days before the First Battle of Bull Run.
