Georgia 11th Cavalry Regiment



HISTORICAL NOTES: The GA 30th Cavalry Battalion was organized in May 1864 in Athens, Ga. This battalion together with four companies raised under authority of the War Department from areas where the conscription act could not be enforced, became the 11th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry by S.O. #271 A&IGO (14 November 1864). The unit was assigned to the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, and served in M.W. Hannon's and R.H. Anderson's Brigade. It fought at Savannah, but many of the men were captured. In February, 1865, only 90 effectives were present and in April most of these were captured at Macon. Officers:
