16th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry
HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Kansas 16th Cavalry Regiment was organized at Leavenworth City November, 1863, to May, 1864.
On October 8, 1864, the Sixteenth Cavalry was mustered in at Fort Leavenworth, just in time to aid in repelling the invasion of General Price. Werter R. Davis was commissioned colonel.
After the Price Raid, a part of the regiment was sent against the Indians on the plains, the remainder being used to patrol the border.
The Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 10 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 98 Enlisted men by disease. Total 110.

Independence and State Line October 22. Big Blue and Westport October 23. Mine Creek, Little Osage River and Marias des Cygnes October 25. Battle of Charlot October 25. Mound City and Fort Lincoln October 25 (Cos. "A," "D"). Newtonia October 28. Operations on Upper Arkansas January 28-February 9, 1865. Protecting country against Indians till June. Powder River Expedition, march to Powder River and Fort Connor, July 11-September 20. Actions with Indians September 2-5. Powder River, Mouth of Dry Ford, September 8. Mustered out December 6, 1865.

Men from Brown, Shawnee and Wyandotte counties enlisted in this regiment, most in companies A, C and K.
