Historical Notes:
The North Carolina 7th Cavalry Battalion was organized during the summer of 1862 with six companies. The unit skirmished in Tennessee and Kentucky until August, 1863 when it merged into the 65th North Carolina Regiment-6th Cavalry.Officers:

Battles:
Details are quite sketchy for the 5th Cavalry Battalion and the 6th Cavalry Regiment. Existing records indicate that they were involved in a number of skirmishes in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky, but specifics are not given.

The roster of this unit contains the names of 655 men.
Company A became Company E of the NC 6th Cavalry Regiment. Principally recruited in Macon County, NC.
Company B became Company F of the NC 6th Cavalry Regiment. This company was from Clay County on the Georgia border.
Company C, became Company G of the NC 6th Cavalry Regiment. Johnson and Sullivan County, Tennessee.
Company D, became Company C, of the NC 6th Cavalry Regiment. It was consolidated with the Artillery Company attached to the 7th Battalion. Raised in Henderson County, NC
Company E became Company D of the NC 6th Cavalry Regiment. Raised in Henderson County, NC
Company F became Company A of the NC 6th Cavalry Regiment and has the distinction of being the only regular Confederate Army unit from Johnson County, Tennessee. Captain Barton Roby Brown recruited this company. Also men from Clay County, North Carolina.
Company G was the artillery company attached to the 7th Cavalry Battalion. Extant musters for this company while serving in the 6th Cavalry Regiment are for the period June 30, 1863 to December 31, 1863 and lists 43 men. Johnson and Sullivan County, Tennessee
