U.S. Colored Troops 7th Regiment Heavy Artillery

HISTORICAL NOTES: The U.S. Colored Troops 7th Regiment Heavy Artillery was organized from the 1st Alabama Siege Artillery Colored. Designated 6th Heavy Artillery March 11, 1864, and 7th Heavy Artillery April 26, 1864. Designation changed to the 11th United States Colored Troops (New) January 23, 1865. OFFICERS: ASSIGNMENTS: Attached to District of Memphis, Tenn., 16th Corps, Dept. of Tennessee, to June, 1864. Memphis, Tenn., District of West Tennessee, to January, 1865. Attached to Post and Defenses of Memphis, Tenn., District of West Tennessee, to July, 1865. 2nd Infantry Brigade, District of West Tennessee, to September, 1865. Dept. of the Tennessee to January, 1866. SERVICE: Garrison duty at Fort Pickering and in defense of Memphis, Tenn., until January, 1865. Companies "A," "B," "C" and "D" garrison at Fort Pillow, Tenn., and in massacre April 12, 1864. Skirmish at Pulaski May 18. Holly Springs, Miss., August 28, 1864.
